Peabody Student Honor Board
The Peabody Awards Program is now accepting applications for membership to our inaugural Student Honor Board.
Become a Member of the Inaugural Peabody Student Honor Board
Students have always been an important part of the Peabody Awards process. The new twelve-student Student Honor Board has been created to take the place of the old student/faculty screening committees. Students selected for the Honor Board will serve as Peabody Awards Ambassadors and will work at all Peabody-hosted events, including the annual awards ceremony in New York City.
The Student Honor Board will help evaluate Peabody Award submissions in the digital realm and will select winners in a new parallel student-run Peabody Award program for innovation and excellence in digital programming.
Student Honor Board members will earn a $500 stipend to help defray their travel costs to New York City for the annual awards ceremony in late May.
The Application Process
All University of Georgia undergraduate students are eligible to apply.
Select one program in the digital realm (anything that you find on web, interactive or mobile platforms) that you think achieves excellence in digital storytelling and sets a high standard for innovation in the digital space. Remember, the Peabody Awards celebrate Stories that Matter. (To learn more about past Peabody Award winners click here.)
Write a two-page argument in support of the digital program or website you select. Tell us why and how it deserves recognition for excellence and innovation. You may include visuals/graphics and hyperlinks in your two-page paper.
We will evaluate all entries and invite up to 20 students to participate in the second and final round of the selection process. If you become a finalist (contacted by Feb. 2), you will be asked to make a seven minute in-person presentation in support of your selected program. We will then choose the twelve students who will comprise the inaugural Peabody Student Honor Board.
The Student Honor Board will begin working immediately. The Peabody Awards Ceremony takes place May 31, 2015, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York.
Submissions must include:
1. Your name, year in school, major/College (or intended direction), and email address.
2. A two-page narrative pitching your recommendation. Include the program title and a link to where the program can be found. Visualizations such as screen captures and other graphics are welcome.
Submit your entry via email at firstname.lastname@example.org with subject title: “Peabody Student Honor Board Application.”
