Paula Lavigne on the impact of #MeToo

Sometimes it takes a powerful social movement to shed light on important stories. “What happened with the #MeToo movement, all of a sudden the world was paying attention and it felt like it wasn’t just like shouting in the dark. And until the #MeToo movement and people started looking at ‘Why aren’t sexual harassers being addressed?’, ‘Why aren’t these cases making it to trial?’—when you start seeing how that system had broken down then I think people were like ‘Oh, wow,’” Paula Lavigne says of the reporting she and her ESPN colleagues uncovered in “Spartan Silence: Crisis at Michigan State.” Lavigne also discusses the challenges of doing journalism in the era of fake news on the FX special “Peabody Presents: Stories of the Year.”
