The Peabody Awards

The Texaco Huntley-Brinkley Report

 1960 | NBC-TV

The smoothly functioning team of Chet Huntley and David Brinkley has dominated the news division of television so completely in the past year that it would be unthinkable to present a Peabody Award in that category to anybody else. Huntley and Brinkley have leavened the increasingly foreboding context of round-the-world news with just enough unobtrusive humor to make it palatable. Their reports are straightforward and unpretentious. For banishing the voice of doom from news broadcasting they deserve the thanks of everybody who likes to hear the day’s headlines, but doesn’t relish the prospect of being scared to death while he’s digesting them.
