The Search for the Nile
1972 | NBC-TV, BBC, Time-Life Films
This six-part chronicle of the race to solve what has been termed the last great geographical mystery would be a fascinating series under any condition. But, today, when television entertainment for the most part seems paralyzed by private eyes and public ratings, it is particularly pleasing to be offered a drama of high adventure which also tells a story of historical substance. The scripts were intelligently prepared form the explorers’ own accounts and enhanced by filming on location in England and Africa. The result was a rich Victorian portrait of the popular heroes of an adventurous age, so near to us in time, but so far away in spirit.
