It is from this rich academic and professional background that he has brought to the newest of the agencies of communication his profound sense of political history, his graceful literary style, and his outspoken courage. In recognition of these qualities, and especially for his perspective, liberal, witty, and scholarly commentary on the news, a George Foster Peabody Award is hereby presented to Gerald W. Johnson of WAAM-TV, Baltimore, Maryland.
