The Peabody Awards

Personal Award: Fred Allen

Personal Award: Fred Allen
Winner 1944 | CBS Radio

From the very beginning, American radio has been famous for its laughter. The Committee this year felt it appropriate to make a special Award to Fred Allen for comedy unexcelled over twelve years. Like Mark Twain and Will Rogers before him, his humor reaches deep into the American character: he has made us laugh at ourselves when the world is out of joint.
