Institutional Award: WMT-TV for Television Local Public Service
Winner 1955 | WMT-TV
(Honorable Mention) Motivated by the desire to see the U.S.A. lead in advanced aeronautical development, and desirous of doing something on the grass roots level, WMT-TV, with the assistance of Dr. Alexander M. Lippisch, director of the Collins Aeronautical Laboratory, brought to an Iowa audience The Secret Of Flight. Through this series, not only were aerodynamic phenomena seen for the first time on television, but in many instances, for the first time by anyone outside Dr. Lippisch’s laboratory. For this unique example of local public service, as well as for other community-minded activities of WMT-TV, this Peabody Television Citation is presented.
