George Washington (CBS)

George Washington
1984 | CBS Entertainment, David Gerber Company

Popular folklore would have us remember the first president of this country primarily for cherry trees and wooden teeth. This compelling production of George Washington by The David Gerber Company and CBS Entertainment reminds us that there was much more to this complex man and his times. The eight-hour mini-series chronicles the little-known early life of George Washington from the death of his father to the end of the Revolutionary War. Impressive scope in costuming and scenic design, an excellent script, and strong performances work together to add a human dimension to the American hero and legend. For providing a glimpse into the events of his times and for demonstrating that he was neither a deity nor a folk-hero, but instead an extraordinary man of commitment and vision, a joint Peabody Award to CBS Entertainment and The David Gerber Company for “George Washington.”
