Our preoccupation with the war in Vietnam and its consequences continues. We attempt to reconcile our experience in Southeast Asia in the popular arts: from fiction to feature films to television. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find new ways of recreating and interpreting the war without falling into traps of imitation or clichè. In the Vets episode of China Beach, writers John Sacret Young and John Wells broke new ground in bringing the experience of the war into our homes.
